# Mothy
#### @Mothy
Age: 19
They/Them
They’re a cryptid that lives in the woods, looks like Mothman. They can feast upon memories and emotion. They had no concept of things like morality, ethics, love, or society until they feasted upon their first and only human victim, a 16 year old boy named Ethan. The memories prove to be too overwhelming, and Ethan wakes up as the cryptid next to their human corpse. They have the memories of the Cryptid as well.
Ethan had a sarcastic streak, and was a jokester. But underneath it all, they were incredibly lonely and felt very misunderstood. They had a friend group in high school, but felt like they weren’t real friends. They grew to hate their parents. They were closeted non-binary.
After becoming a cryptid, that loneliness becomes even more intense, as they live in the woods avoiding humans (especially cryptid hunters). They learn to hunt as well. Their new body can’t speak, but does have four arms and wings. They can fly too, so they travel.
They amass a collection of camping gear, clothes, and technology from campers that run away after seeing them. Using portable solar panels, a phone, and a handheld gaming console, they try to make friends while gaming online. They eventually find themselves in a small group chat of friends after playing together in an MMO. Due to being mute, they only participate in text chat or with TTS. Due to having four arms, they can text and play at the same time, although not super well.
They keep any definitive facts that they’re a cryptid a secret, but is willing to tell tongue in cheek jokes about it to amuse themselves and confuse their friends. Their isolation and hopeless feeling situation leads to them having a morbid sense of humour.
They start the story with a very low self esteem and sometimes vent about it to the group in vague terms, saying how people are always afraid of their deformity and muteness, plus lingering gender woes. The group (especially Luna and Jayce) is able to give some philosophical help to boost their self esteem somewhat, which ends up with Mothy feeling more resentful towards humanities fearful tendencies.
They become somewhat of a mystery to the group, due to their odd behaviour and bad circumstances. Other members of the group chat speculate whether they’re homeless or in an abusive household. Even after everyone else has face revealed, they have not. They claim it’s because of a deformity related to their muteness.
### Anatomy
Mothy looks like Mothman, but there are some very important differences from a moth. They have a head and mouth like a mantis, with Mandibles for cutting and Maxilla for manipulating and taste.
Their wings articulate more like bird wings, with slower more deliberate flaps rather than the rapid flapping of a bug. Wings are leathery and more durable than a bugs. Wings have red spots that sorta look like eyes.
They have 4 arms, with 3 fingered hands. The lower pair of hands are clawed, while the upper pair are better for manipulation.
Mothy is fuzzy like a moth, and has a mane like a moth. Big fuzzy antenna too, which gives Mothy an incredibly strong sense of smell. Dark grey coloured, but the fuzzier parts are lighter.
Two large red eyes, moth like without eyelids or pupils. Reflects light in a way that can look like glowing.
Because of their wings, a backpack has to be worn on the front. Any clothing for their top would have to contend with the wings somehow. Cutting holes for the 2 extra arms might be simple, but the wings are not. Pants would be possible though. They have bird like feet with talons, can perch in trees.
### Thoughts on others:
Mothy finds Alex to be a comforting presence, she is the Mom of the group, and she doesn’t pry as much as Jayce. She’s just nice to be around when Mothy wants to feel happy, and she’s good at organizing fun stuff to do.
Mothy finds Brandon to be relatable in his ignorance, but also scary knowing who his Dad is. His curiosity is cute though, and he seems to be always improving. He reminds Mothy of who they used to be. It’s neat to learn about other cryptids through him too.
Mothy likes Luna a lot, their ironic detachment is similar and they can riff off each other well. Mothy has an understanding of her prickliness, and appreciates the less optimistic, more “real” way she speaks about things.
Mothy is somewhat jealous and frustrated with Jayce, despite wishing they could be them. Jayce advocates for unapologetically “being yourself”, while Mothy can’t without being hunted down, and Mothy can’t explain their feelings properly. Despite that, Mothy admires their activism and free spirit. Some of their self-confidence philosophy can be useful, but they’ll never fully understand.
