They've been eating rodents, having to find secluded spots to sleep, and generally avoiding attention.
They are having a difficult time without someone to guide them. They get the idea to seek out a musician to study under.
They listen to the performance of a traveling Halfling Bard named Finn, and decide to approach him when he's alone.
+Perhaps a former apprentice is involved to give Zamir the idea.
While Finn is traveling through the woods to the next town, Zamir approaches him. Disguised or not?
Finn will be absolutely terrified of Zamir, and agree to whatever they say out of fear. They bullshit to seem like they're calm and collected.
Most would detect the fear underneath the facade, but Zamir is built different. Doesn't suspect a thing.

So, what now? This wasn't a sustainable lifestyle. Their ambition couldn't be satiated as a member of the audience; they want to be on stage! But their illusions just barely function, how could they possibly do anything without revealing the monster underneath? Zamir was at an impasse.

+They've been caught! But there's only one witness. Should they kill this man? That's what Mother would suggest. It'd also be nice to eat something other than the vermin. Yet the thought of doing something like that makes Zamir wince (that's new). Could the man be manipulated into compliance? But how? Zamir could never understand Mother's lessons on humanoid ethology. Regardless, they can't trust any of those teachings, Mother was *wrong!* So what's the alternative?

+They both gawk at each other for a literal minute till Zamir tries a more direct approach: "We will pretend this never happened," they state firmly. The dwarf takes a moment to process Zamir's request, then slowly nods. They both stare at each other for a bit longer until the dwarf starts nervously backing away. Eventually he turns a corner, out of sight.

+Zamir hisses in relief. That went well? They have so many questions but no one to answer them. They reapply their disguise and continue making their way towards the show.
